Travel to SRWA

There are good public transport links between SRWA, Lancing, Shoreham, and the surrounding areas.

We communicate regularly with our PTA, West Sussex County Council and the local public transport providers to ensure that services remain satisfactory, and improvements are made where necessary. Last year in addition to the public bus and train services we have also secured the services of A&A Travel to provide a private bus between Shoreham and the Academy (details below).

The Academy encourages walking and cycling to school wherever possible. There are plenty of bicycle racks in the Academy for the safe storage of bicycles or scooters during the day.

Where the distance from the Academy does not allow for walking or cycling to school, there are several transport options available, as detailed below;

Academy Coach

The private coach service to and from Shoreham, is provided by the Academy and A&A Travel (times and route here). The current routes are shown below:

Route 1: Red Lion -- Upper Shoreham Road (Adur Road) -- Upper Shoreham Road (Buckingham Park) -- Upper Shoreham Road (Near Southlands hospital) – St Nicholas and Mary School -- A259 (High Street BY Ferry Bridge) -- SRWA.

This coach arrives at the Academy at 8.35am, for the afternoon journey it arrives at 3:25pm and departs the Academy at 3:30pm.

Route 2: Shoreham High Street ( Near Bridge Inn Public house) -- Longshore Public house -- Lancing Broadway -- SRWA.

This coach arrives at the Academy at 8.35am, for the afternoon journey it arrives at 3:35pm and departs the Academy at 3:40pm

The cost of the private coach service for 2024-25 will be £155 per term, per child, payable in advance.

Please note that the Academy subsidises the private coach service by over £30,000 each year, and it is therefore not possible to offer any further discounts for siblings, vulnerable students, or students eligible for free school meals. If you believe that you are eligible for financial assistance towards transport costs then you should contact West Sussex County Council via their website: West Sussex Transport

West Sussex County Council will collate details of anyone who is eligible for free school transport during the Summer Term. The Transport Team will then ask the academy for that number of seats in September. It is essential that your application for free transport is sent to WSCC in good time, as we cannot guarantee that there will be any seats left on the coaches if your application to them is late. Please contact School.transport@westsussex.gov.uk.

Priority for places on the Academy coach/es will be given in the following order:

1. Vulnerable students including those with Special Educational Needs and Children Looked After
2. Siblings of other coach users
3. New Year 7 intake
4. Year 8 students
5. Year 9 students
6. KS4/KS5 students
7. Late applications

The timeline for requesting a place on the private coach is detailed below:

April - Complete expression of interest form so that academy can ascertain how many seats are required on the coaches;

May - Complete application form for a place on the coach. This will be sent to those who have expressed an interest

July - Receive letter confirming your place on the coach

August - Make payment for the first term, via ParentPay

Please note that late applications for the private coach service may not be considered until all available spaces are filled.

Public Bus

The public school bus service, route 19A, is run by Compass Travel. There are many stops on the route, which goes from Shoreham, via South Lancing and Central Lancing, to SRWA. The bus stops directly outside the Academy. Details of the timetable can be found here.

Train

There is a regular train service linking Shoreham and Lancing and Worthing. Details can be found on the National Rail website here. It is a 15 minute walk to SRWA from the train station or there is a bus from Lancing Train Station to Cokeham Road, by the Academy, every 10 minutes. Details of ‘The Pulse’ service can be found on the Stagecoach website: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/routes/south/pulse/west-durrington-lancing/xpbpulse.i

Students and parents may wish to consider getting a Key Smartcard to make it easier and faster to buy or renew train tickets, and to minimise contact.  More details on how to get a card, including a child Key Smartcard, can be found on the relevant website:www.southernrailway.com/tickets/the-key-smartcard

By Car

If you wish to drive your child to school, please use the overflow car park, which is next to Boundstone Nursery. Please do not park outside the academy gates at any time, as this area is a dedicated safe crossing area for the students. This area is clearly marked with a yellow hatched area, and ‘Keep Clear’ signs on the road.
