Entry requirements

4 in English language or literature

4 in a humanities subject (e.g. history, geography, RS)

What will I study

There are four components, two in year 12 and two in year 13. We look at UK politics and UK government in year 12 and in year 13 we will look at American politics and then the last part is "isms". Potentially, this would be nationalism as a political theory but there is flexibility for student choice.

How will I be assessed?

Three exams, each exam is two hours long. It is an essay based course, with some of the questions providing you with a stimulus material that you need to read and discuss.

Is this subject for me?

If you are interested in politics, and are keen to find out how government works both in England and America, then yes. It is an academic subject, and ties in well with other academic subjects at A Level including history, geography, English Lit and philosophy.

Where can this lead me?

Ideal for students looking to become involved in politics, the civil service, journalism, law or many other high level professions. It is also a strong A Level to help you get into academic courses at top universities.

What else is there?

We will be offering as part of this course the chance to go to the houses of parliament, and also to tie it into the 6th form trip to New York.
