What will I study

For A level PE you will study the sports industry and the human body in sport through 7 units;

  • Applied Anatomy and Physiology
  • Skill Aquisition
  • Sport and Society
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Biomechanical Movement
  • Sport Psychology
  • Sport and Society, and the Role of Technology in Physical Activity and Sport.

You will also have a practical element to your course, where you will be assessed in one sport. You can be assessed as either a coach or a performer.

You will also have a coursework element, focusing on an analysis of a performance.

How will I be assessed?

There are 2 exams - each 105 marks / 2 hours long. Each of these exams is worth 35% of your final grade.

You will also be assessed in one sport plus the Analysis of Performance coursework. This makes up 30% of your final grade.

Is this subject for me?

This subject is for you if you have a sport which you perform at a high competitive level (e.g. high club / district / county or above), and you are interested in the science, physiology, use of technology and history of sport.

Where can this lead me?

An A level in PE can lead to;

  • A job in the sports industry (e.g. coach, teacher, physiotherapy, sports scientist for a club, personal trainer)
  • Coaching badges
  • Further education such as a degree in Physical Education or Sports Science.
