BackWord Book Day read-a-thon a great success!
Posted on: 14th May 2019A big congratulations to the students who took part in our World Book Day read-a-thon last week.
32 students were sponsored to sit in the library and read all day instead of going to their normal lessons. They were joined by members of staff on rotation who sat with the students when they were available …. Ms Urwin, Mrs McCullough, Mrs Westgate, Mrs Hillman, Ms Sale, Mr McGonigle and Mr Scantlebury took part.
Twelve students read an entire book over the course of the day! 12 Accelerated Reader quizzes were taken also.
Richard in Year 8 is reading a book with over 700 pages - he ticked off 400 of those in one sitting.
Several of the students commented on how calm and relaxed they felt after reading for the whole day. Some of the older students in years 9 and 10 said how nice it was to have time to read. Raphaella, year 9 felt that she doesn’t have a lot of time now to read for pleasure, so loved the opportunity to sit quietly and read an entire book.
Cher in year 7 wants to know when the next one will be!
Libby, year 7, says that she has been sponsored over £55 if she completed the whole day of reading – which she did!
The money raised will go towards buying more books for the Library.
Well done everyone!
