BackContinuing success for A level students at W6 Sixth Form at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy
Posted on: 15th Aug 2019Students and staff at W6 Sixth Form at SRWA, a member of the Woodard Academies Trust, are today celebrating yet another set of great results.
This year there were numerous examples of excellent individual performance. These achievements are a source of pride for the Academy and they provide a strong foundation for further success for our students.
Students on vocational courses continued the trend of excellent results, with over 21 students awarded grades of Distinction and Distinction*.
English Literature results were once again strong, with an astonishing 44% achieving an A* or A. Students worked tirelessly to grapple with the challenges of some of the lesser known characters from Othello. “When I opened the exam paper, I remember thinking this was a tough set of questions and I almost cried, so to come out with an A is amazing,” commented an English Literature student.
In Philosophy and Ethics over 70% of students achieved top grades of A*-B. These results have given many of our students access to some of the country’s finest universities
The Academy offers a broad selection of qualifications ranging from academic A-levels to a variety of equivalent vocational qualifications. A key strength for the Academy is in the Performing Arts specialism. Once again, this subject area delivered excellent results with 100% of music performance and dance students achieving the top grade of Distinction*, the equivalent of an A*.
Almost 80% of candidates studying acting and theatre achieved the top grade of Distinction*, which sees many of those students heading off to some of the best performing arts institutions in the country. Lexie Butterfill, an aspiring actress and dancer, scored two Distinction* grades and is off to the prestigious Plymouth Conservatoire at Plymouth University. With her eyes on a career in acting she commented “I am so glad I got the grades.”
The successes of previous years continued in Health & Social Care with 100% of all students gaining the equivalent of an A*grade.
Our students’ achievements have once again opened the doors to many of the country’s best universities. The range of courses to which students have been accepted this year is impressive, including liberal arts, philosophy, engineering, veterinary sciences, linguistics and, of course, performing arts to name but a few.
Mark Monahan, Assistant Principal and Head of Sixth Form, commented “Yet again our students have excelled. We are delighted with what they have achieved as a result of years of hard work and perseverance. We are immensely proud of what can be achieved with hard work, excellent teaching and of course incredible commitment.”
