On the 8th May the SRW-A team took part in the 2022 Greenpower Race day at the iconic Goodwood race track. After a quiet couple of years due to COVID restrictions the team re-formed in September and over the past few months have worked tirelessly to rebuild and modify their car. 

This season the team secured some sponsorship from Buildbase, who generously provided the team with professional race suits and some new helmets to match, ensuring the students looked the part and stayed safe during the race.

As always the race day was absolutely fantastic. Goodwood always puts on a show, and with the sun shining and over 100 cars entering it was set to be a memorable one.  

The team were a credit to the academy, working together in the pits to help the drivers make swift changes and ensuring the car met the strict scrutineering checks. The students took part in two races as well as a practice session with the car running smoothly in all three. They completed 30 laps in total which equates to a distance of 74 miles, the top speed of the car was 24mph. The team opted to ensure all 15 drivers got to experience driving on the infamous Goodwood track rather than aiming for the podium but still came in a credible 51st place.

As well as racing, the students used the event to learn as much as they could about the car and went on fact finding missions, speaking with other teams and looking at how other teams had built their vehicles and ways that they could improve their own.  

The day was a complete success and a fantastic experience for both the students, teachers and parents that came along. The students looked professional in their new attire, and stayed safe thanks to Buildbase, and made some fantastic memories. The team should be really proud of their efforts and they are already looking to the next race.
