On the 30th April the SRW-A team took part in the Greenpower race day at the beautiful Goodwood race track. The 2023 team have worked fantastically well over the past year modifying the car and tuning the motor.

This season the team were lucky enough to secure some sponsorship from Stoba engineering, who very generously provided the team with funds to purchase an echook data logger, an android tablet and a rolling road to enable the students to collect and analyse data from the car.

Although the weather for the day looked a little ominous on the run-up to the event, sun prevailed once again and the Goodwood race day was absolutely fantastic. The event is always buzzing with over 100 cars from schools all over the UK coming to try their luck on one of the UK’s most iconic race tracks.

The team were a credit to the academy, working together in the pits and ensuring the car met the strict scrutineering checks. The students took part in two races as well as a practice session completing a total distance of 65 miles and each member of the team had the opportunity to complete a few laps on the track. The races didn’t go entirely to plan with a couple of technical issues, but the team pulled together and got themselves back racing in no time.

As well as driving, the Goodwood race day is a great opportunity to see what other schools and colleges have done with their cars, meeting the other teams and sharing ideas. The day was a complete success and a fantastic experience for both the students, teachers and parents that came along. The team would like to take this opportunity to thank Stoba for supporting them this season and for providing refreshments on race day.

The Greenpower project has continued to go from strength to strength at SRWA and we are now looking into the possibility of developing a second ‘scratch build’ car, using the knowledge and experience we have gained over the last few years along with our contacts with local companies.
