On Monday 24 June, 12 students from the Academy visited Hurstpierpoint College to participate in the model UN event. There were students from lots of different schools around the South East all representing different nations attempting to find resolutions to some of the most pressing global issues.

Our two SRWA teams of delegates, one representing Canada and another representing Iran spent the day negotiating to resolve issues such as Medical tourism, Homosexuality legislation, Human rights abuses in sporting events and the Gaza - Israel crisis.

Students were required to speak publicly and challenge delegates from other nations in an attempt to reach a consensus.   Needless to say the 12 delegates embraced the challenge and rose to the occasion. A special mention to the following students Who were recognised for their individual contribution

- The delegate from Iran, Leo Groves, for his speech against the Israel Gaza resolution.

- The delegate from Canada, Jake Dunn, For twice challenging opposing nations on their approach to religious freedoms and their response to the pandemic crisis.

- The delegate from Iran, Jasmine Bundell, who won a silver medal for the contribution she made in her committee.

We hope to build on the success of this event and recruit more model UN as into the team moving forward. Students that are interested should speak to Mr. Kington.
